a novel enzyme with unusual properties
Rainbow DNA Polymerase is a recombinant family B DNA polymerase cloned from the hyperthermophilic marine archaeon Thermococcus sp.
OGL-20P, isolated from the Rainbow hydrothermal vent field in the
Atlantic Ocean. It is a robust, multi-purpose enzyme that possesses a
proofreading 3’-5’ exonuclease with high fidelity and can be used in
all applications involving primer extension. More thermostable than Taq
polymerase (3 x longer half life at 95°C), Rainbow DNA Polymerase’s
high extension rate and processivity generate superior yields in short
reaction times using a wide range of template types and purity levels.
DNA products are blunt ended.

One unit is defined as the amount of enzyme that will incorporate 10
nmol of dNTP in 30 minutes at 74°C in the presence of Rainbow reaction
buffer, 0.2 mM each dNTP, and 16.6 ng/µL primed M13mp18 substrate.
