GenMap Human Mapped BACs
covering the entire genome
Open Biosystems brings you access to sets of ordered, mapped human BAC clones that cover the entire human genome. The availability of mapped BAC clones for chromosomal analysis greatly expedites the identification, localization and understanding of genes associated with human disease and chromosomal aberrations.
A genome wide collection of evenly distributed mapped BAC clones has been made available by Dr. Vivian Cheung's lab at the University of Pennsylvania1 . Beginning with the RPCI-11 human male BAC library2, STS markers were used as anchors to map the BACs to the genome, at ~1Mb resolution. A subset of these clones were used in the NCI CCAP project and the results of the FISH analyses performed by the NCI CCAP on these clones are available at both the GenMapDB, and the CCAP web page.
GenMapDB, a relational database at the University of Pennsylvania, was developed in order to manage the accumulated data from the BAC mapping project3. GenMapDB contains the positional location of each BAC clone. Additionally, the GenMapDB includes restriction fragment analysis and end sequences for many of the clones. Also included is other useful information on the clone, markers, and important links to other genome databases. The data is ordered by chromosomes and you can search either by specific BAC location, whole chromosome, or physical distance.
To find a BAC clone covering a particular region:
  1. Point your browser to http://genomics.med.upenn.edu/genmapdb/
  2. Select 'Start using this database'
  3. Enter a whole chromosome number or a physical distance in Mb from the p-telomere
  4. Note the RPCI BAC clone ID and chromosome for placing your order.
Shipping Information:
Individual clones:
Clones are provided as a live culture in a 2-ml tube. Each tube contains LB medium supplemented with 8% glycerol and the appropriate antibiotic. Within 4-6 days of receiving your order we will ship your clone at room temperature via express delivery. Store the stock clone at -80°C.
Clone Collections:
Orders of 50 clones or greater and stock plates will be provided in 96-well microtiter plates. These will ship on dry-ice via overnight delivery and should be stored at -80°C immediately upon receipt. Please contact our customer service department for a quote and estimated shipping time on bulk orders.
